The Chicago Botanic Garden is easy to find and easy to reach, approximately 20 miles north of Chicago.
The Garden is located at 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe, Illinois. For maps and driving directions we recommend www.mapquest.com, which also has traffic updates.
From Chicago
Follow the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) west to Edens Expressway (I-94) and U.S. Route 41. Exit at Lake Cook Road and travel 1/2 mile east to the Garden.
During Edens construction, consider taking public transportation or alternate routes such as Sheridan Road, Milwaukee Avenue, Green Bay Road, or Waukegan Road.
From the north
Head south on U.S. Route 41 or I-294. Exit at Lake Cook Road and travel east to the Garden.
From the west
From I-90, take I-294 toward Wisconsin. Exit at Lake Cook Road and travel east four miles to the Garden.
From the south
Take I-294 north, exit at Lake Cook Road and travel east four miles to the Garden.
From Indiana
Take I-90 or I-80/94 to I-94 northbound through Chicago, and then follow the directions from the city (see above).
Getting to the Garden by Train & trolley
The Garden is located near the Glencoe and Braeside Metra train stations on Metra's Union Pacific North Line. For a schedule of trains, contact Metra Metropolitan Rail at (312) 322-6777 or www.metrarail.com.
Trolley Hours April 19 – June 1 — Glencoe Station
The trolley runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Trolley Hours June 7 – September 1 — Glencoe Station
The trolley runs from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
June 7 hours extend to 8 p.m. for the Wine Festival; June 8 hours extend to 6 p.m.
Special Trolley Hours
Summer Evenings: 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Select Wednesdays for Grapes & Hops (July 9, 23, 30, August 13, 27, and September 3).
Take Metra and Walk to the Garden — Braeside Station
Take the train to the Braeside Metra station in Highland Park. Depart from the station and walk west approximately one mile along Lake Cook Road (also known as County Line Road) to the Garden entrance.

Bus connections are available from Davis Street in Evanston, Park Avenue Glencoe and Central Street Highland Park train stations. Take the #213 bus marked "Northbrook Court." Buses run north and south on Green Bay Road and then west on Lake Cook Road to the Chicago Botanic Garden. Buses do not run on Sundays and holidays.
Getting to the Garden by Bicycle
Several area bike trails lead to the Garden, where cyclists can slow down to smell the roses — and the lilacs, geraniums and other fragrant plants. So that bicyclists can take a stroll through the gardens, bicycle racks are conveniently located near the parking lots.
